You may have been referred to us by your solicitor when seeking legal advice. If you have not taken legal advice, you will be encouraged to seek advice at certain points through the mediation process.
Generally, you and your former partner will spend time together with the mediator. During these sessions the mediator will help you both to find common ground for an agreement.
It is normal for you to discuss financial issues. At the start of this mediation session, you and your former partner will have to tell the mediator your financial information. Any information given at these sessions may be reviewed by either of you outside of the mediation.
Your mediator will help make sure there is open and free discussion and will ensure that any proposals are realistic helping you reach an agreement.Proposals made during mediation are not legally binding.
Your mediator will prepare a summary of the proposals and any financial information once you have reached agreement. This summary will be passed to your solicitors who will then translate it into a legally binding document.
